Terms of use
Last updated 15 September 2026 · Applies to the AfterSpike app and to afterspike.com
AfterSpike is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or give medical advice, and nothing it shows or says is a substitute for your care team, your prescribed treatment plan, or the reader and alarms that came with your sensor. Do not make treatment decisions from the app alone.
1. What AfterSpike is
AfterSpike is a personal tool for seeing glucose readings and learning your own patterns from what you log. It can read a directly connected sensor, readings other apps write to Apple Health, and readings you type in. Its coach asks what you did, times it, and reports what happened, using your own history. It reports; it does not prescribe.
2. Using it safely
- Keep the official reader or app for your sensor, and keep its alarms on. AfterSpike's alerts depend on your phone, its battery, Bluetooth and iOS, and can be delayed or missed.
- Readings from Apple Health can be up to an hour behind, because of how iOS delivers Health data to apps. Do not rely on them for urgent decisions.
- When the app says something about insulin or medication, it is repeating what you logged and what your glucose did afterwards. It never calculates or suggests a dose. Follow your care plan.
- If you feel unwell, or a reading does not match how you feel, check with a meter and follow your care team's advice.
3. The beta
The app is pre-release software provided through Apple's TestFlight for testing. It may contain bugs, may change without notice, and may stop working when a build expires. Do not depend on it. By joining the beta you agree to Apple's TestFlight terms as well as these.
4. Your data
Your readings and logs are yours. AfterSpike keeps them on your phone, in Apple Health with your permission, and in your own private iCloud. We do not collect them and cannot see them. The privacy policy explains this in full.
5. Your responsibilities
- You must be at least 18, or use the app with a parent or guardian who accepts these terms on your behalf.
- Use only sensors and devices you are entitled to use. Connecting a sensor directly may stop other apps or readers from using it; understand your sensor's behaviour before you switch.
- Do not reverse engineer, redistribute, or misuse the app or any part of it.
6. No warranty
The app and this website are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy of readings, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Glucose readings come from your sensor or from Apple Health and can be wrong; the app shows them as it receives them.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, AfterSpike and its developer are not liable for any loss, injury, or damage arising from use of the app or reliance on anything it shows or says, including missed or delayed alerts and decisions made from its readings or its coach. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app, which during the beta is nothing.
8. Third-party services
Apple Health, iCloud, TestFlight, Apple Watch, and Garmin's Connect IQ and Connect app are provided by Apple and Garmin under their own terms and privacy policies. AfterSpike is not affiliated with any sensor manufacturer.
9. Changes and ending use
We may update these terms; the date above changes when we do, and continued use means you accept the new version. You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it. We may end the beta or withdraw a build at any time.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the courts of that state.
